Encampment at Valley Forge in 4 Minutes

Shared from SLA Connect:

Those who attended the tour of Valley Forge that DMIL sponsored after SLA 2016 may especially enjoy this video. It’s a summary of the significance of the encampments there in 4 minutes.  Talk about your elevator speech!   There is precious little remaining that was there during the time of the encampments so I’m very glad we had such a good tour guide and the park staff who put it in context.  Our guide also did a fine job of reminding me how happy I am to be a woman in this time rather than the 1770’s !!!

The video is on the Mount Vernon website.  I highly recommend a visit to Mount Vernon and Valley Forge.  I’m no historian or history buff but do want to better understand our history as a country and the history of the military that I serve.

The Encampment at Valley Forge in 4 Minutes: “This 4-minute video illustrates the terrible trials that Washington and his army faced at Valley Forge and how they emerged stronger and better trained for the campaign seasons ahead.”

“What I Learned from Attending the SLA Conference” by Laura Fu

Shared from SLA Connect:

I had the opportunity to speak on a panel at this year’s conference. The panel was about taxonomies in digital asset management. I was only there for a night, and I didn’t have time to attend any sessions myself, but I did learn a lot about myself, my career path and the industry I’m in just by participating in the panel. So much so, that I wrote a blog about it.

If you attended the session (it was at 8am on Tuesday), I would love your thoughts or feedback, either here or privately via email. And I’m curious to hear from other attendees and presenters about what you learned from attending. Any surprise moments or take-aways?

Thanks!
