#MLTW2017 — 4 December

I arrived yesterday for MLTW2017.  Several of us got together for supper at the Skydome Restaurant for good conversation, exceptional food, and a fantastic view of the DC area.  I strongly recommend the view and the food.  It is a rotating restaurant on the top floor of the north tower at the Double Tree.  I had the Kobe Burger with
amber 16 cheddar, tomato, frisée, shallot sauce, and french fries.  It was excellent. The company and conversation was good as well.  I am terrible at remembering names so I won’t mention any.

This morning I walked from the hotel to the 911 Memorial at the Pentagon.  “The Pentagon Memorial, located just southwest of The Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, is a permanent outdoor memorial to the 184 people who died as victims in the building and on American Airlines Flight 77 during the September 11 attacks. ” This is my first visit to any of the 911 memorials.  It is a beautiful and tranquil location.  There is a lot of background noise from the highways and jets but it does not impose on one’s visit to such hallowed ground.  I was moved to tears as I remember that day very well and put names to the people killed in this act of barbarism.  An audio tour of the memorial is available by dialing 202-741-1004.  Listen to it as you walk around the memorial.   Here are a series of photos I took there.

Each bench is for each person who died that day at the Pentagon.

Purpose

The youngest victim was Zoe Falkenberg. She was three years old. Her mother, father, and sister were all on the plane with her.

I was inspired to do this sketch at the memorial.

My sketch of part of the memorial.

Everyone should go see the memorial at least one time.  It is very moving.
