Part-Time Paid Summer Internship: National Geographic Library‏

National Geographic Library is looking for a paid summer intern, working 24 hours per week for 10 weeks. Join our staff and help support one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational institutions in the world. Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, wildlife, history, archaeology, natural science, conservation, and exploration.

Job Title: 

Summary

The intern for the National Geographic Library will gain valuable work experience, see how a small, non-profit special library operates, and get a look behind the scenes at one of the world’s most respected and recognized organizations. The NG Library serves the staff at National Geographic, and maintains book, periodical, map, and electronic resource collections.

Learning Opportunities 

  1. Learn to update and develop NG library website content and research guides (50%)
  2. Assist Library staff  with providing reference services to National Geographic staff  (20%)
  3. Lean to digitize selected archival materials and write topical summaries (20%)
  4. Learn to create training or marketing materials and programming for library outreach (10%)

Related Field of Study Required

MLS or related graduate field of study required.

Additional Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Requires strong attention to detail along with excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.
Familiarity with Springshare Libguides, library software systems, database searching. HTML preferred. Other multimedia technology skills a plus.

Responsibility percentages may vary depending on business needs.
