Travel Awards Available for National Diversity in Libraries Conference 2016: Deadline April 29, 2016

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is offering up to five $1,000 scholarships for individuals to attend the 2016 National Diversity in Libraries Conference (NDLC ’16), August 10–13, in Los Angeles, California. Funds from the scholarships may be used to cover the cost of registration, travel to and from the conference, lodging, and meals.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible applicants are:

  • students enrolled in library and information science graduate programs;
  • library support or paraprofessional staff;
  • library professionals within the first three years of their careers;
  • others who exhibit financial need.

The Association’s goal is to encourage conference participation and engagement of library staff and faculty who might not have the financial resources to attend the NDLC. Applicants are asked to submit a statement of financial need along with their application essay.

Benefits and Responsibilities

Scholarship awardees will receive payment of $1,000 in one lump sum directly from the Association of Research Libraries. Awardees will be responsible for registering for the conference, making arrangements for travel, and reserving hotel accommodations.


Apply online by Friday, April 29, 2016. The selection committee will be composed of members of the ARL Diversity and Inclusion Committee or their representatives, and other leaders in member libraries. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by June 6, 2016.

Each applicant must provide:

  • an essay (400 words maximum) that describes how you will benefit from attending the NDLC or how the event supports your learning and developmental interests and goals;
  • a brief statement of financial need (can be appended to the essay);
  • a résumé or CV; and
  • a recommendation letter from a faculty member or supervisor submitted via e-mail to Sarah Durso,, by the faculty member or supervisor.

Roger K. Summit Scholarship. Deadline March 30th, 2015.

Share this Scholarship Opportunity Today—Deadline is March 30th!

ProQuest is proud to present the Roger K. Summit Scholarship; open to all LIS students worldwide. The award is the equivalent of US $5,000 and is presented at the Special Libraries Association 2015 Annual Conference to be held June 14-16 in Boston, Massachusetts or at a regional location in proximity to the winner.

Applicants must be students who are currently enrolled in an accredited library or information science program. The scholarship recipient, who must have demonstrated outstanding interest or performance in electronic information services, is selected based upon the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement
  • Demonstrated interest in electronic information services, based on course work, research, and experience
  • Faculty recommendations

The Roger K. Summit Scholarship, awarded annually by ProQuest, was established to honor Dr. Roger K. Summit, the founder of Dialog, for his outstanding contributions to the field of information science.

Code4Lib plans to offer on-site childcare in 2015. Please let us know how many children you expect to bring with you and their ages at the time of registration. We are seeking sponsors to offset childcare costs, but for now, you should plan for $200/child/day for a 0-2 year old and $100 for a 3+ year old.
