DTIC Training after MLTW

Boot Camp – Thursday December 10th and Friday December 11th

(CAC/ECA required); The Thursday session will be repeated Friday. 

The Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) is offering two, one-day, Boot Camp training sessions, at our Fort Belvoir Headquarters. MLTW participants can sign-up now to attend Thursday or Friday, 10 or 11 December 2015. Registration is open to all CAC and ECA holders. This full day hands-on training includes DTIC’s collections and enhanced collaboration resources:

  • The R&E Gateway, DTIC’s access controlled entry point, provides single sign on access to search and secure collaborative tools
  • DTIC’s Collections Search includes DTIC and Information Analysis Center (IAC) Technical Report (TR) collections, Unified Research & Engineering Database (URED) research project summaries, and legacy Independent Research & Development (IR&D/IRAD) summaries plus DoDTechSpace, DoDTechipedia, and budget documents
  • DoDTechipedia is an S&T focused wiki for the research community, where users can collaborate, contribute, and retrieve information. Defense Communities is a wiki targeted to DoD
  • DoDTechSpace is a collaborative tool for researchers worldwide to share conversations, get up-to-date information, and develop solutionsWe welcome experienced users. Gain new techniques for using DTIC resources to support your users and organization mission. For less experienced users, this session introduces features and strategies to leverage DTIC services in your environment.STINFO Overview – Thursday afternoon, December 10thIf you can’t describe and define the STIP (Scientific and Technical Information Program) and what a STINFO (Scientific and Technical Information Officer) does, DTIC’s STINFO Overview may be for you. All Defense employees and contractors can access Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) from DTIC. What do you need to know to protect, yet share, with authorized users? Learn more about:
  • Distribution statements and marking technical documents
  • Advising recipients and users about release, use, and disclosure
  • Publicly releasable information (Unclassified/Unlimited or U2)
  • Classified information
  • Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) (sensitive but unclassified, limited, etc.)
  • FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), FOUO (For Official Use Only), PII (Personally Identifiable Information), copyright and other markings
  • Export control, critical technology, ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), EAR (Export Administration Regulations) and the MCTL (Militarily Critical Technologies List)

DTIC is seeking an individual to serve in the User Services Directorate as a
senior librarian responsible for providing information retrieval services
and customized products to DTIC’s customers; organizing, accessing, and
disseminating scientific and technical information in a specialized subject
area to meet the needs of the DTIC user community; formulating search
strategies to retrieve information from DTIC databases and collaborative
tools (e.g., Technical Report, Unified Research and Engineering, Independent
Research and Development, DoDTechipedia and DoDTechSpace), as well as other
DoD, government and commercial databases; participating in the DTIC Call
Center service which responds to user queries received via telephone, email,
fax, Web-based forms, and an online virtual reference service; participating
in beta-testing of online products, undertakes and participates in special
projects, and provides assistance to lower graded retrieval specialists; and
responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and Congressional
inquiries.
