Dear MLD Members, and Registrants of the 2012 Military Libraries Workshop,
It is with great regret that we announce to you the cancellation of the Military Libraries Workshop (MLW) scheduled for December 3-7 2012 in Albuquerque, NM. As you know, much work and great enthusiasm go into the planning of this premier Workshop for all military librarians and others in the community.
Regulatory Guidance from the Department of Defense (DoD) to the various branches of the Armed Forces has made it extremely difficult to obtain approval for travel to training and conferences in the time remaining before MLW 2012’s opening workshop day of Dec 4, 2012.
Along with support from Headquarters, SLA, the Military Libraries Division Board of Officers has explored many alternatives before coming to this decision to cancel MLW 2012.
We sincerely thank those of you who were planning to attend the conference, and we hope to find many more opportunities to share knowledge among Military Libraries Division members.
Next year, the Military Libraries Workshop (MLW 2013) will be held in Huntsville, AL. The workshop will be at the Embassy Suites Hotel and the adjacent Von Braun Center, Dec 9-12, 2013. We will be working through the approval process to ensure our members can attend next year’s workshop. We look forward to seeing many of you there, and at the SLA Annual Conference in San Diego, CA.
Again, the Military Libraries Division Board considered many options before coming to the conclusion that cancellation was the only option for MLW 2012. Thank you for your understanding in this difficult time, and we look forward to continuing the training and professional development opportunities arranged by the Military Libraries Division.
Gloria Miller
Military Libraries Division Chair
