Clayton State University Library, Morrow, GA – Part-Time Job Opportunity‏

Clayton State University Library seeks an enthusiastic part-time evening reference librarian to provide innovative reference support and outreach services to Clayton State University faculty, staff, and students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of current trends in library technology, electronic resources, and information services. Part time librarians will primarily work evenings during the semester, (Monday-Thursday), and should have flexibility to work occasional day or weekend slots, during interim semester and as staffing is needed.

Required Education and Qualifications

• ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Sciences or a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology/Library Media prior to start date.
• Ability to work productively, both independently, and as a part of a team.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Experience working with the public.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong commitment to public service.
• Reference experience in an academic library or in a public library.
• Experience with preparation of reference guides and tools.
• Knowledge/course work of the trends in information literacy instruction.
• Knowledge of automated library systems.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Sciences or a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology/Library Media prior to start date.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and research assistance, face to face, electronically, and by phone.
• Staff the Information/Reference Desk and perform tasks including: check in/out of study rooms and technology equipment, answer basic computer assistance and general informational questions, and provide assistance with copier/print services.
• Supervise student assistants.
• Participate in collection development by evaluating and selecting materials.
• Collaborate with other library staff to promote awareness of library services and resources.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent sitting, using hands and fingers for keyboarding, handling and feeling objects to control computer and print resources. This employee will need to be able to stand, walk, reach, climb and maintain balance. Employee needs to be able to move or lift up to ten pounds.

Clayton State University Library seeks an enthusiastic entry level reference and instruction librarian to provide innovative reference support, instruction, and outreach services to Clayton State University faculty, staff, and students.

The successful candidate will show a strong sense of community values and embrace the Clayton State philosophy by supporting diversity, teaching excellence, student academic goals, creativity and desire to learn. The successful candidate will actively participate with the other librarians in the information literacy program at the Clayton State University Library, demonstrating knowledge and flexibility with current trends in library technology, electronic resources, and information services. Schedule requires one evening a week, and may include an additional evening and occasional weekend hours.

Job Title: 

Summary

The intern for the National Geographic Library will gain valuable work experience, see how a small, non-profit special library operates, and get a look behind the scenes at one of the world’s most respected and recognized organizations. The NG Library serves the staff at National Geographic, and maintains book, periodical, map, and electronic resource collections.

Learning Opportunities 

  1. Learn to update and develop NG library website content and research guides (50%)
  2. Assist Library staff  with providing reference services to National Geographic staff  (20%)
  3. Lean to digitize selected archival materials and write topical summaries (20%)
  4. Learn to create training or marketing materials and programming for library outreach (10%)

Related Field of Study Required

MLS or related graduate field of study required.

Additional Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Requires strong attention to detail along with excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.
Familiarity with Springshare Libguides, library software systems, database searching. HTML preferred. Other multimedia technology skills a plus.
